Short-term Plan FAQs

Yes, you can apply for coverage before or after you arrive in the United States. However, we recommend purchasing before your trip begins for continuous coverage from day one.

If your trip exceeds 60 days, consider our Long-Term plan (61-365 days) which is designed for extended stays. You may also contact our support team about extending your current coverage.

With the direct billing feature, payment is coordinated with the healthcare provider directly where possible, so you may not have to pay out of pocket and wait for reimbursement. Contact the BMI Travel Assist emergency line listed on your voucher first, and they will coordinate with the provider. Note: Direct payment is not available at all facilities. In some cases, you may need to pay and submit a claim for reimbursement.

Short-Term plans cover travelers up to age 84. Ages 74 and under pay the standard rate. Ages 75–84 are accepted at 3× the standard premium. Travelers age 85 or older are not eligible for any plan. Note: if your traveler is 65 or younger and needs more than 60 days of coverage, the Long-Term plan is also an option.
